Thomas Raymond Oaten

Air Mechanic 2nd class FAA/SFX 582 Thomas Raymond Oaten (always known as Raymond) was serving on the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious. He was killed 10th January 1941 aged 25 when she was attacked by German planes off Sicily with the loss of 125 officers and men. He is commemorated at Lee-on-Solent memorial. He was the son of Thomas and Julia Oaten, of Port Isaac, and is also commemorated on their grave at St Endellion Churchyard (Grave E 187).
